Field: Common Questions

Common Questions

  1. Can I come out & try playing without signing?
No, you must be signed & registered before you can step on the field for insurance purposes.
  2. It is raining, snowing, windy etc are we still practicing?
Yes.  Unless you get a call from your coach or there is lightning.
  3. Can you have extra practices?
Yes, provided your coach can organize & find a field.
  4. How much does it cost?
$165.00 before Mar.1 $175.00 after. You also get a hat & a pair of shorts for being on the team….. the team jersey is a loner unless you want to buy it at the end of the season.
  5. Special equipment required?
Soccer or football cleats (studs) otherwise you slip all over & cannot be very effective in helping your team.
  6. Mouth Guards?
Mouth guards are mandatory for practices & all games. Please bring one & have a cheap back up in your bag just in case.
  7. What time should I be ready to practice?
At least 45 minute, subject to traffic & weather & your ride. & you should be dressed ready to go ½ hour before so we can run stretch & play catch on the side lines before we start using our $65.00 per hour field.
  8. What sweater do I wear for practice?
Anything you might have in a lacrosse jersey, but please do not wear game shirts.
  9. I don’t know the rules, can I still play?
Yes you will know most of them by the end of the first weekend of games if not before.
  10. I have never played lacrosse before but want to learn?
If you understand the commitment to rep. sports & want to learn come out & try out.

Game Days

What should I bring?  Lunch, high energy drinks & snacks, health food, but parents, no Beer is allowed.

Lots of warm clothes & blankets & wet weather gear & lawn chairs, sun screen & hats when the weather warrants.

Don’t forget your camera, wet muddy lacrosse players make for great photos.

Always bring extra socks & a change of clothes, sometimes 2 for players to stay dry & play their next game in, & then something to go home in.

You can go for restaurant food time permitting, but it adds lots to your cost.

Parents, what do we have to do on game days?  Good question…. At least one parent per game is responsible to be a time keeper/ scorer for the game & sit at the scorer keepers table on the team side of the field. The ref.s make sure you know what to do & make it a fun experience. Please make sure the coach gets one copy after the game sheet after every game. Also, one parent will be required to act as ball person, to make sure balls shot out of bounds are retrieved.  Please bring our team balls back to the team after the game. One caution if you are scoring or on the touch line you cannot coach or cheer it gets the players & coaches a little upset & after all this is really a game that emphasizes sportsmanship.

Parents are not allowed on the player’s side of the field, they sit on the opposite side of the field from the players and are encouraged to cheer for both teams for good plays especially at Novice & Peewee.

We have great referees, okay some are young, some are new, some are old, some are fat & some are slow, sounds like Dr. Seuss doesn’t it.  They miss the occasional call, but are very highly regarded & usually are out on the field assisting the players & coaches to better understand the right way to play the game so please e supportive. We have a strong mentoring program which helps us to keep the game well officiated & if you have any concerns or unsure of a call please ask your coach or a minor field official.  They even explain calls to the  parents if you have a smile on your face.

If we are fortunate to have managers for each team the manager is responsible for filling out or labeling in triplicate the game sheets before the game.

Managers will assist in assigning parents so that everyone gets a chance.

When do we play: Novices & Peewees are always Saturdays, unless there is a special situation, starting as early as 8:00 a.m., the last game of the day finishes at 6:30.

The scheduler tries to keep a 3 hour window for a team so they aren’t sitting around all day, but sometimes it does happen.

Bantams & Midgets are Sundays.

This of course always changes for the qualifiers & provincials so you need to set aside the entire weekend for these two weekends.

Location of games not listed above, Mother’s day is Whitby & the second weekend if everything goes according to plan will be in Toronto. These could change at any time.

Schedules & games will be posted on the web site.

Please ask me if you can’t read the schedule you will be looking for a field location & then looking for Mississauga then “N1 or N2 depending on ratings to see the times the boys play & against who they are playing that day.  Don’t get confused there are also PW 1 or 2 (Peewee) or B 1 or 2 (Bantam) or M1 or 2 (Midget)….. this one always seems to get people the first week.

Finally, schedules always get changed last minute so please check you schedule Friday nights just in case the scheduler has to change the game times.  It happens every year & always causes lots of anxiety, so please beware.
